Client: Ninja Imports

Project: Design a logo for our new business

Ninja Imports is a South Australian business who import cars from Japan. We designed this logo for them.

Criteria logo must have:

Strong lines (Japanese Manga Style font if possible)
Japanese influence
Preferably something to do with Ninja’s
Modern, sleek and easy to recognise

This was a fun project.The Ninja Imports team were good at articulating what they wanted, which made the whole process easier. They were also great at giving specific feedback on each draft. It was also a fun project because it’s a less-common style and offers a huge amount of creativity to play with.

How did we start?

Firstly, research. The Ninja Imports team had a couple of links to the ‘sort-of style’ they were after, which helped. Then we started researching different Japanese influenced things. This includes fonts, other car websites, logos and -of course- ninja influences!

1st Drafts:

Client feedback:

We like it! Definitely on the right track. Can we try a few different layouts to see how it might look?

2ND drafts:

Client Feedback:

We like elements of a few of them. We definitely prefer the layout with the mascot next to the text. And we like the ‘NINJA’ from the top-right example with the slash through it. ‘Imports’ should be the same width as ‘NINJA’.

Can we make the text bigger in proportion to the mascot? Can we flatten the mascots’ head? Can we add some colour. In particular deep red (for Japan) and maybe some purple?

3RD Draft:

The first option is with all their suggestions. The second option was one we made for fun, just in case they liked it

Client Feedback:

AWESOME! We actually really like the one with the Japanese flag headband! Can we do something with the ‘J’ in ‘NINJA’ like the ‘A’ but remove that part on the ‘A’?
